• Title of the Book- The BFG

  • Author- Roald Dahl

  • Date- 9-21-11

  • Chapters read- 1-46

  • Entry Focus and question number- Plot: Which part was the most important part? Why?

    • I think the most important part of the book is the beginning. It was when the gaint took Shopie to his cave. She was fightened. She asked the giant questions and one was, "when do you eat people up?" He replied "I don't" and she said "then why did you take me?" The gaint said " I did that because when ever someone sees me and is not a giant, the rule is you have to take them." She replied "when can you let me go?" He said "never." The gaint said "if you ever try to escape and one of the other giants see you they will eat you in one bit." I think that's important because I you don't pay attention and don't really like it I think that the rest of the book will not make that much sense to you and your reading level might go down because you are not paying that much attention to your book. It will really affect you when you read a book. It might make you a worse reader. When you read you should pay attention to what you are reading because it will encrease your reading level, make you a better reader and you will get to really like to read or just do better in reading. Make sure that you like what your reading, make sure it is your reading level and make sure you pay attention to every little detail in the whole book. You might want to test yourself after you read the book to make sure you understand what it is about. If you don't like the book or it's to hard for you and you 20 pages in pick a new book. Do the same rules that you have for every book.

    • Title- The BFG

    • Author- Roald Dahl

    • Date- 9-29-11

    • Chapters read- finished book

    • Entry Focus and question number- Setting: How might the story be different if it happened somwhere else? At another time? How might the story be the same?

    • I think The BFG could be the same even if it is at a different location and at a different time. I think this because in the book there is only one giant's country. If it was at a different place there might be humans there which makes the book different. If the giants were sleeping the humans might try to do something to them like it is in the story. If it was at a location where rarely any human goes that would be like giants country. The only difference would be the name. If any humans went there just like in the story, they would eat them if they were awake. If they weren't awake, then maybe the humans would tie them up. At any place it could be the same. The humans would still eat them up if they were awake and if they were sleeping and a human goes there than they can tie them up. It would be different if they didn't go to the places that were in the story. If it was at a different time, it would be the same because the giants would still be eating humans and walking to places to eat them. It also can be the same if they went to the same location that they went to in the book. It can be at any time, an hour later, 30 minutes later,1:45, any time you want to, besides the time in the book which would make it a little bit different.

  • Title- Bud, Not Buddy

  • Author- Christopher Paul Curtis

  • Date- 10-6-11

  • Chapters read- 1-15

  • Entry Focus and question number- Thinking about characters: Give one thing you would change about the character and explain why you would change it.

  • My character is Bud and what I would change about him is that I would want him to do sports. I would want to change that because you he could be more descriptive about it. What I mean by that is that he talks about how Bud loves to read but it does not say which book is his favorite and as a reader I would like to know that. It did say what book the librarian showed Bud and what books he liked to read when he went to the library but I would still like to know more. Now lets get on to the explanation. I would want him to play sports because I am intrested in sports and what sports he would play. Also what position he would play in the sport. If he likes the sports and if he wished he played other sports. I would love to know which one is his favorite and why? If Bud had to choose one sport which one would he pick and why? There would be a lot of questions I would ask him and thoose are just a few of them.

    • Title-The Invention of Hugo Cabret

    • Author- Selznick

    • Date- 10-16-11

    • Chapters read- All of book

    • Entry Focus and question number- Theme and Mood: If you wanted to suggest this story to a friend, what would you say it was mostly about? Why?

      • The story was about two thieves named Hugo and Isabelle. Hugo stole from Papa Georges and Isabelle stole from Mama Jeanne. In the beginning, Hugo was the only thief. As the story continues, Hugo and Isabelle were both thieves. However, they were thieves for different reasons. Hugo stole from Georges toy booth and Isabelle stole from Mama Jeanne's heart necklace. Mama Jeanne found out on page 267 when Hugo told Mama Jeanne that he used Isabelle's key to wind up the mechanical man . Papa Georges found out that Hugo was steeling on page 50 when Papa Georges woke up from sleeping and grabbed Hugo's arm inside his booth. When Papa Georges and Mama Jeanne found out Hugo and Isabelle were stealing, they were very dissapointed, angry and furious. Everything that Hugo and Isabelle stole was very precious, valueable, and important to both of them. Even though they stole many things, they all ended up close and living in the same house. Hugo and Isabelle were so close by the end of the story, it's unbelieveable. They stole a lot, especially clocks. Besides stealing, Hugo was good at fixing things and made sure everything was working. Finally at the end of the story, they stopped steeling from each other. At the end of the story, Papa Georges, Mama Jeanne, Isabelle, and Hugo all lived together and had a very good relationship.

  • Title-Eleven

  • Author- Lauren Myracle

  • Date- 10-20-11

  • Chapters read- 1-8

  • Entry Focus and question number- Thinking About Characters: Tell me about your favorite charactor in this book. What kind of person is this charactor, and why is he/she your favorite charactor? Give specific examples from the book to help me understand your chose.

    • My favorite character in the book Eleven, is Winnie. She is my favorite character because Winnie was nice to everyone, especially Dinah Devine. Even if she did not like the person, she was still nice to them. Winnie is very nice person. Here are some examples of how she was kind. Winnie asked Mr. Devine if he would go get Dinah and bring her back for the Halloween party on page 119 even though she did not like Dinah. Also on page 135 Winnie went home with Dinah to go to the mall and look at the cats. While they were at the mall, on Page 139 Winnie picked out a outfit for Dinah to try on. Winnie thought it looked good on her so she commented. Dinah said she would take her dad later and see what he thinks. Winnie felt bad for Dinah and went with her to the mall because she thought Dinah did not have any friends. Winnie was being nice to Dinah on page 161 when they were on the playground at recess playing chinese jump rope. Winnie clapped her hands together and said go Dinah. All the kids were on the playground watching Dinah when she was doing really good at the chinese jump rope. Winnie was very nice when she cheered for Dinah. I like Winnie's character in the book because she is a very nice person. It is interesting to see how the characters in the book react to Winnie's kindness.

  • Title-Twelve

  • Author- Lauren Myracle

  • Date- 10-28-11

  • Chapters read- 1-3

  • Entry Focus and question number- Plot: How would you solve the problem in the book?

  • In the book twelve there are four problems. There are three problems that deal with Winnie and one problem with Sandra. The first problem appeared on page number 5. It shows that Winnie has a problem. Winnie's problem is that the black tank top she wanted to wear does not fit her anymore. I would solve the tank top problem by either purchasing a new tank top or just picking a different tank top to wear. On page number 6 there is another problem. The second problem is that Winnie's mom wants to go with Winnie to the mall to get Winnie some bras. Winnie does not want any bras. I would solve the bra problem by not making Winnie buy any bras or sitting down and discussing why it may be a good idea. If she decides not to purchase any bras, it would be her loss not her moms. Another problem on page number 17 was that Winnie wanted to get her ears pierced and her mom would not let her. Winnie has been waiting three weeks to get her ears pierced. I would solve Winnie's ear piercing problem by allowing her to get her ears pierced the first day. I would pierce Winnie's ears because I personally wouldn't want to hear her complain. The last problem which was also on page 17 is that Winnie's sister, Sandra wanted to get her drivers license. However, Sandra's mom would not let her get her license. Sandra has been waiting two days to get it. I would allow Sandra to get her driver's license. Again, I would not want to hear her complain and would take her to get her license. All I probably would hear from her after is thank you so so much. All of these problems are not that big and can be solved easily.

  • Title- The Alchemyst

  • Author-Michael Scott

  • Date-11-3-11

  • Chapters read-1-11

  • Entry Focus and question number-Setting: In what other place or time could this story have happened, or could the story only have happened in this setting? Tell me why you feel this way.

  • I am reading the book the Alchemyst. I think this book could only happen in this setting. In this book, Dr. John Dee plans on stealing a book. The book that he is planning on stealing is called The Book of Abraham The Mage. Dr. John Dee planned on stealing the book during the day when the book store was crowded. Dr. John Dee comes in the book shop and attempts to take the book on page number 23. He grabs the book and leaves. I do not think Dr. John Dee could take the book at a different time because the store would probably not have as much happening at that time. If the store did not have "magic" occurring at the time, Nicholas Flamel could have done two things. First, Nicholas could have caught Dr. John Dee and taken the book away from him. The other approach could have been that Nicholas would catch Dr. John Dee and call the police. The story could not happen at a different setting because the book was only at that particular book store. Additionally, they needed all the distractions that happened when the book was taken. I assume that they do not take books out of the book store.

  • Title- The Alchemyst

  • Author-Michael Scott

  • Date-11-8-11

  • Chapters read-1-14

  • Entry Focus and question number-Plot: If you could change something that has happened in this chapter or in thus far, what would it be, and how would this change the rest of the story?

  • If I could change something in the story that has already happened I would change the fact that Mr. John Dee does not get the book. The book is called The Book of Abraham the Mage. I still want Mr. Dee to try and take the book, but in the end I want hime to fail in his attempt to take it. I think it would be great if he fails in his attempt to take the book because Nicholas Flamel would out smart him and his golems. It would change the rest of the story since Nicholas Flamel, Shophie and Josh Newmen would not be worried about how they would get the book back. They would probably be really happy that they still have the book. On the other hand, Dr. John Dee would be mad that his plan did not work and he did not get the book. He would probably go home and work on another plan to get the book as soon as possible. There would be a whole other plot to get the book and the situation would change. There would be more drama and excitement in the story regarding how Dr. John Dee took the book. He may never really get the book, but there could be many instances where he was very close and many different stories.

  • Title- Cosmic

  • Author- Frank Cottrell Boyce

  • Date-11-16-11

  • Chapters read- pages 1-180

  • Entry Focus and question number- question number # 3: If you could change places with one of the characters in the book who would it be why?

    • If I could change places with one of the characters in the book Cosmic, I would change places with Liam. I would change places with him because it would allow me to do certain things I cannot do now. Liam is really tall which allows him to go on a lot of rides with height requirements. Since Liam has facial hair and is tall, he could pretend to be a dad and get treated like a adult. People would respect him and not treat him like a child. On page number 10, Liam and his class were walking out of the South Lakeland Outdoor Activity Center. The guard who was watching them go out of the exist, pulled Liam aside and let the rest of the class through. The Guard told Liam on page number 11, "the main exit is over there, mate. This is schoolkids only." The guard mistook Liam for a gentleman. So Liam decided that he would just stay there and go on more rides. He also got to drive a car on page 35. The man at the dealership said Liam could drive the car. Liam attempted to drive the car. I would choose to switch places with Liam because he has more advantages than other children and goes on a lot of adventures.

  • Title- The Mostly True Adventures of Homer P. Figg

  • Author- Rodman Philbrick

  • Date-11-30-11

  • Chapters read- 1-8

  • Entry Focus and question number- Making Connection: If the main charactor was a friend of yours, what would you advise them to do? How could you help them?

      • If I had to advise the main charator (Homer Figg) in the book, The Mostly True Adventures of Homer P. Figg, I would advise Homer to try to break out of the rope around his neck and run back to his house. Even though it says on page number 34 that if he pulls too hard on the rope, it tightens. Also it says that there might come a time when he can get loose and escape, but he just wants to stay there for right now. I still would want Homer to try to escape and take a risk. I would want him to escape because he might get hurt and be in a dangerous situation. However if he was caught trying to escape, he would cut by a knife. I would want him to carefully try to escape, but not get hurt.

  • Title- Museum of Thieves

  • Author- Lian Tanner

  • Date- 12-10-11

  • Chapters read- pages 1-92

  • Entry Focus and question number- Would you like to read something else by this author? Why or why not?

  • If I had a choice to read something else by the author (Lian Tanner) in Museum of Thieves I would read it. I would want to read another book by this author because I love mysteries. I like to try and figure out what happens next in the book. It makes it fun to read and keeps my attention. In the Museum of Thieves , on page number 91, it ends that Herro Dan says to Goldie " The old Shark's never gone off by itself before" and Sinew says " So why now." This leaves me wondering why the old shark went off by itself and if they are going to say why on page number 92. I enjoy reading the book Museum of Thieves and I think I will really like it at the end. Generally, when I read a book I enjoy, I like to read other books by the same author. By the second book, I understand the author's style and it is easier to understand.

  • Title- Thirteen Plus One

  • Author- Lauren Myracle

  • Date- 1-6-11

  • Chapters read- Pages 1-80

  • Entry Focus and question number- 6) Tell me about a character that you really dislike in your book. What kind of person is this character, and why is he/she your least favortie? Give specific examples from the book to help me understand your choice.

  • In the book, Thirteen Plus One, my least favorite character is Gail. She is my least favorite character because she is really mean to a lot of people, especially Winnie. Winnie is my favorite character. On page number 71-72 Gail and her friend Malena crowded around Winnie's locker. They were talking about Winnie's best friend Dinah and how she stole makeup. Gail was trying to make Winnie feel bad. It was incredibly rude. In the book Thirteen, which was immediately before this book, Gail stole Winnie's best friend Amanda away. Now, Amanda is Gail's best friend. Winnie made new best friends. Gail is probably going to get meaner as the book continues. This will make me dislike Gail even more. By the end of the book, I will really dislike her. Gail is very mean to everybody, especially Winnie. It bothers me when people are not nice to one another. It is easier to be nice than to be mean.

  • Title- The Girl Who Could Fly

  • Author- Victoria Forester

  • Date- 1-16-12

  • Chapters read- Pages 1-30

  • Entry Focus and question number- Theme and Mood: Did something in this chapter make you sad, mad, happy, surprised, etc? What was it? Why do you think it caused this reaction?

    • In my book The Girl Who Could Fly there are two things that surprised me, one thing that made me sad and one thing that made me happy. All four things made me have a big reaction. One thing that surprised me was that on page number 13-18 Piper was flying in the air and it surprised me because I didn't know a human could fly. Also on page number 26-30 Piper's parents said she could go to the Fourth of July picnic and actually let her go. That surprised me because Piper's mom and dad never let Piper go anywhere or meet anyone. She is only allowed to go to church. When she goes to church, her mom and dad sit close to her so other people don't see her. They make sure there the first people out of church so Piper is not seen. Also, she is home schooled. The one thing that made me sad was that her mom and dad don't let her ever leave the house and meet people. The one thing that made ma happy was that Piper's mom and dad let her go to the Fourth of July picnic. Those were the four things that caused me to have a big reaction.

  • Chapters read- Pages 1-50

  • Entry Focus and question number- 7) Which of the characters change in the story? In what ways do they change? What made them change? Are these changes believable? Why or why not?

  • In my book The Girl who could Fly there are two people who I think have changed through out the book. The two people are Piper's parents,Betty and Joe. On pages 26-30, it shows that Betty and Joe have changed when they let Piper go to the Fourth of July picnic. They never let Piper go out. Betty and Joe decided to allow Piper to go to the Fourth of July picnic. They felt that Piper wasn't high-spirited, it was getting hard to recognize her and that it was time to finally let her go to the fourth of July picnic. They also thought that if they all went to the Fourth of July picnic as a family that it would make Piper happier. I believe that Betty and Joe are going to go through with it and let Piper go to the Fourth of July picnic. I hope that I am right. If they go through with this, I hope they will keep on letting Piper go out, meet people and let her stay out for a while. This change in Piper's parents is believable because they want what is best for their daughter. If Piper does go to the picnic and it does make her happy, it was a very easy thing to do. If the parents see a change in Piper quickly, then they may continue allowing Piper to go out.

  • Title- The Girl Who Could Fly

  • Author- Victoria Forester

  • Date- 2-3-12

  • Chapters read- Pages 1-210

  • Entry Focus and question number-Thinking about characters: Choose a character from the book and describe what the character might have been like as a six-year old.

  • In my book The Girl Who Could Fly I am going to describe Piper, the main character who is ten, as if she was a six- year old. I would think that Piper would not try to fly or know how to fly. It says on page numbers 13-18 that Piper thinks about flying, tries flying and actually flies. Also, she is a ten-year old so I do not think she would fly at six-years old. I don't think she would have gone to the Fourth of July Picnic because on page numbers 26-30 Betty and Joe(Piper's parents) tell Piper that that year they are going to the Fourth of July Picnic only because Piper seemed low spirited. This happened when Piper was ten years old so I do not think Piper would do that at the age of six. I don't think Piper would be as smart because she would be four years younger. I also don't think she would have gone to the Institute because they asked if she wanted to live there when she knew how to fly and I don't think she would known how to fy when she was six years old. Again she learned how to fly when she was ten years old and in four years a lot happens. I think Piper would be everything she is right now besides those three important descriptions.

  • Title- The Girl Who Could Fly

  • Chapters read- Pages 1-281

  • Entry Focus and question number- Thinking About Characters: Pretend that you're the main character's mom/dad. Write them a letter commenting on what is happening at the present time.

Dear Piper,

I hope you don't get to mad at Conrad because on page number 280 he told Dr.Hellion about the plan to escape and that's how we got caught. Also that the escape probably would have worked if Conrad didn't tell and he is sorry. The good thing is Conrad helped you get out of the canes and braces on page number 277. When you make another plan like it says on page 281 please think the plan through more and sure no one will tell Dr.Hellion or anybody like Conrad said he did on page number 280. Please make sure you don't have to go in that machine again and forget everything so you will need the canes and braces that will make you that to class. Also Conrad will probably try and fix you again so you will remember everything and not need canes and braces, then you will have to think of another plan like you did on page 181. Don't do anything to dangerous and stay safe.

Love,

Your Mom

P.S. I hope you are doing okay.

  • Chapters read- Pages 1-78

  • Entry Focus and question number- Making Connections: Which character would you like to have as a friend? Why? Talk about their actions and character traits in your response.

  • In my book Powerless I would like to be friends with the character Eric. I would like to be friends with the character Eric because he seems to be a nice person who cares about other people. On page numbers 62-68, Eric asks Daniel if they can make a quick stop. The stop was to see Clay and Bud. Eric went there to tell Clay and Bud to stop bullying Daniel. After Eric says that and turns around, Clay tries to punch him. Eric turns around and grabs his hand before Clay could make contact. After Eric grabbed Clay's hand, he used his power to fly and Clay's afraid of heights. When they were in the air for a while, Eric came down and Clay and Bud said they gave up. I think that was very nice and kind of Eric to stick up for his friend Daniel. I think Eric is a great friend because he sticks up for his friends and that makes a true friend. I like to have friends that care about other people and are kind. That is why I would want the character Eric as a friend in the book powerless.

  • Title- The Hunger Games

  • Entry Focus and question number-Plot: What do you think is the largest problem, or conflict, that the main character faces? Explain why you think this is the largest problem. What type of conflict is this: character vs. character, character vs. self, character vs. nature, or character vs. society?

  • In my book The Hunger Games I think the worst problem is on page number 243, Kadniss's sister (Primrose) is called up as the girl to go to the hunger games, but instead Kadniss stops Primrose from going and says that she will go in her place. Kadniss wouldn't risk Primrose's life, but she would risk getting killed. The hunger games requires two people (a girl and a boy) from each district to go and fight for there lives but only one person wins and stays alive. I think this is a big problem because Kadniss is risking her life and she does not even get to choose to risk her life or not. The type of conflict this is character vs. self because Kadniss is fighting with herself. She does not want her sister to risk her own life. She feels she would rather risk her own life than her Primrose's life. Kadniss decided for herself that this was a better solution. I think is a big problem because Kadniss could die to save her sister. If it was not her sister she probably would not risk her own life.

  • Entry Focus and question number- Making connections: If you had been the main character in this situation, how would you have reacted? Would you have the same or different reaction?

  • In The Hunger Games, if I was the main character Kadniss, I would have reacted the same way in her situation. On page number 243 Kadniss's sister Primrose is called up as the girl to go to the hunger games, but instead Kadniss stops Primrose from going and says that she will go in her place. I would have risked my own life instead of my younger sister's life. I feel I would be more experienced than my younger sister. For example, I would be a better hunter, know how to aim, know how to use weapons like a knive, a bow and arrow etc. I am older which means I am tougher, stonger and bigger. Also one time when Kadniss's mom left she took care of her younger sister by hunting, cooking etc. I think Kadniss did a great thing by risking her life for her sister's because I think Kadniss is more experienced in what she knows how to do. That is why I would have reacted the same way Kadniss did in her situation.

  • Chapters read- Pages 1- 4,676 (kindle)

  • Entry Focus and question number- Plot: Do you agree with the ending of the book? If so, why? If not, how would you change it? Why?

  • In my book The Hunger Games I agree with the ending of the book because it had a happy ending. On page number 4,639 the ending sentence is, "I take his hand, holding on tightly, preparing for the cameras, and dreading the moment when I have to let go." I thought that was a really good closing sentence and ending because it was saying I never want to leave him or let go of his hand. I also thought that the closing sentence was really touching and special because of the way the author worded it. My third reason that I thought it was a great ending is because it really went along with the last chapter. My last reason why I thought the book had a really good ending is because it pulled the whole book together. The Hunger Games was a really good book and I thought the book had a really good ending and agreed with the way the book ended.

    • In my book Out of My Mind I predict that Melody will end up loving her Medi-Talker because on page number 129-132 Melody was asking Mrs.V about it and to tell her mom and dad. After her mom and dad said yes she kept on waiting patiently for her Medi-Talker and once she got home from school and saw it she wanted to open it and use it right away. I also thought she would love her Medi-Talker because on page number 128-129 Melody and her helper Catherine were looking for all kinds of electronic talking and communication devices. Once she got to the Medi-Talker she started kicking, showing that she wanted that one. That is why I think Melody will end up loving her Medi-Talker.

  • In my book, Catching Fire, my favorite character is Katniss. She is my favorite character and the kind of person that gets things done when they need to get done and she does nice things for people. An example of this would be on page number 248-297 when President Snow went to Katniss’s house and told her at the Hunger Games that not everyone believed that she and Peeta were in love. He told her that when she goes to every district and makes a speech, she has to make them believe that Katniss and Peeta are really in love. Also, he stated that if Katniss didn’t make people believe that she and Peeta were in love then a lot of people would get killed. Katniss made sure that people believed that she and Peeta were really in love so no one would get killed. Another example, page number 895-916, Katniss and Peeta went to each district and had to give a speech about the Hunger Games. Katniss knew it would be kind and proper to say something about the two people who died from the Hunger Games in each district so she did. These are the reasons why she is my favorite character.

  • In my book Catching Fire, Katniss and Peeta show responsibility to Haymitch for the Hunger Games. On page number 2,731, Haymitch tells Katniss and Peeta to do two things. One is to stay in love for the Hunger Games and two is to meet some friends so they can team up with them for the Hunger Games. On page number 2,731 Katniss and Peeta say that they would obviously stay in love during the Hunger Games. On page number 2,757-2,851 Katniss and Peeta have been trying to make friends for the Hunger Games. That is two ways Katniss and Peeta showed responsibiliy to Haymitch for the Hunger Games.

What type of conflict is this: character vs. character, character vs. self, character vs. nature, or character vs. society?

  • In my book, How to Beat the Bully WIthout Really Trying, I think the largest problem is that Rocco is moving where Rodney lives. On page number 87, Rodney's parents tell him that Rocco's family is moving where they live. Rocco would always beat Rodney up when he lived in New York. Now that Rodney moved, everyone is scared of him at his new school. Once Rocco moves. Rocco will beat Rodney again. Other people will no longer be scared of Rodney. Then, everyone will pick on Rodney. The other children will no longer be afraid of Rodney. He will get beat up and picked on every day. Rodney faces bruises and torture. I think this problem is character vs. charater because it is Rodney vs. Rocco. I also think this is character vs. society, since he has all the other kids that he picked on returning his abuse once they are rid of their fear. This one of the largest problems because someone might get severly injured.

  • Title- Middle School The Worst Years Of My Life

  • Author- James Patterson

  • Date- 4-29-12

  • Chapters read- Pages 1-285

  • Entry Focus and question number- Plot: Do you agree with the ending of the book? If, so why? If not, how would you change it? Why?

  • In my book, Middle School The Worst Years Of My Life, I agree with the ending. One way that I agree with the ending is on page number 26-27 when Rafe and Leo the silent thought of an idea that they should break all the rules during the school year from the HMVS codes of conduct. In the book they decided to call it Operation R.A.F.E He made it a game and for each rule he breaks he gets points and he only has three lives so if he chickens out of something then he loses a life. On page number 281 he got in so much trouble from Operation Rafe that he got expelled from his school for the rest of the year. He also said on page number 281 that Operation RA.F.E. wasn't a game it was a special project to help pass the time. I also agree with the ending because on page number 1 Rafe said hat he was sitting in the car with his sister Georgia and Leonardo the silent who only draws and doesn't really speak. I agree with that because on page number 272 Rafe's mom said unfortunatly Rafe's twin brother Leo died when they were three. Leo was sick from meningitis. Now I understand why Rafe called Leo, Leo the silent. His brother died at a very young age so he couldn't speak. On page number 271 it says that Leo was named after an artist. His mom said they were all named after artists and said Leo was named after Leonardo da Vinci. That is why I agree with the ending.Title- Plunked

  • Author- Michael Northrop
  • Date- 5-2-12
  • Chapters read- Pages 1-100
  • Entry Focus and question number-Theme and Mood: What is the theme of this story? How does the theme of the story apply to your own life?
  • In my book, Plunked. Plunked is about a kid who plays baseball so I would say the theme is baseball or a baseball field. I would think that would be the theme because on page number 3 it starts of that they are on a baseball field. This theme the book applies to my one life because I play softball and I have practices and games a lot against other teams. Also on page number 83 it says I got knocked off my feet at the same instant I hear the crack which means he got hit really badly. Getting hit applies to my life because a lot of people get hit in my softball games and get hurt. This story applies tomy life because I play softball and he plays baseball and there not that different. Those are the reasons why this story applies to my own life.

  • Title- Mockingjay

  • Author- Suzanne Collins

  • Chapters read- Pages 1- 1,211 (kindle)

  • Entry Focus and question number- Theme and Mood: If you had to find one object that would symbolize the main theme of the novel, what would it be?

  • In my book Mockingjay if I had to find one object that would symbolize the main theme of the story it would be a mockingjay pin. I think it would be a Mockinjay pin beacause on page number 463 it says that tommorow Katniss is going to agree to be the mockingjay. Only one person gets the spot to be the mockinjay and they choose her. This is the person who will lead all the people against the capital. She is the symbol that all of the people follow and look to for direction. Also during the Hunger Games she wore a Mockingjay pin on her shirt and she also wore a mockingjay pin on her shirt during the Quater Quell. I think a mockingjay pin was a clue that she would be an important character in the book. These are the reasons why I think a mockingjay pin symbolizes the main theme of the story.

  • Entry Focus and question number- Write a descriptive poem about one of the characters in the book from that charaters's point of view. Begin each line of the poem with "I am..." and talk about the character's actions, thoughts, feelings, hopes and dreams, and character traits.

  • I am reading the book Mockingjay and I am writing a descriptive poem about Katniss Everdeen. Here it is:

  • I am Katniss Everdeen who particapated in The Hunger Games and The Quater Quell.

  • I am thinking about Peeta on page number 2,206 when they say and now on to our good president Coriolanus Snow becauase of how much he hurt Peeta.

  • I am responsible for my actions, trustworthy, the mockingjay and a nice person.

  • I am hoping that Peeta will be free from the capitol and back with me.

  • I am feeling confident that we are going to save Peeta from the capitol.

  • I am dreaming of why they said poison is the perfect weapon for a snake on page number 2,206.

  • Title- Mockingjay

  • Author- Suzanne Collins

  • Chapters read- Pages 1- 2,930 (kindle)

  • Entry Focus and question number- Author's Craft: Do you think the title of the book is appropriate? Does it "grab" you? Why? How do you think the author chose the title?

  • In my book Mockingjay I think the title Mockingjay is appropriate for this book. I think the title Mockingjay is appropriate for this book because on page number 463 Katniss is going to agree to be the Mockingjay. Another reason why I think the title Mockingjay is appropriate for this book is because in the Hunger Games and The Quarter Quell, Katniss wore a Mockingjay pin. Also on page number 2,918 it says that Haymitch wanted to talk to Katniss and Katniss said out in the hall, away from the cameras? I think she said that because she is the Mockingjay and always is on camera. The title mockingay also grabs my attention. The title Mockingjay grabs my attention because the Mockingjay is a mystery compared to the other two books and I loved the other two books. They were called The Hunger Games and Catching Fire. I think the author Suzanne Collins chose the title Mockingjay because she talked about and used the Mockingjay pin in both books The Hunger Games and Catching Fire. That is why I think the title Mockingjay is an appropriate title, it grabs my attention, and why the auther chose the title Mockingjay.
